Setting and Reporting

The mandate of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is to promote sustainable and inclusive development and regional connectivity in the Asian and Pacific region.

ESCAP’s role as a regional development arm of the United Nations Secretariat is to support its membership with policy oriented research and analysis, normative support and technical assistance and capacity building, to respond to the development priorities and changing needs of the Asian and Pacific region.

This position is located in the Commercial and General Services Section (CGSS), Division of Administration (DA).

The incumbent reports to the Chief of the Conference Management Unit through the Supervisor of the Conference Technology Team.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Meetings Services Technician will be responsible for the following duties:

Uses basic technical skills to install, configure, operate, and test audio, video conference hardware/software using available communication and network connectivity for preparation of on-site, hybrid and online meetings organized in the United Nations Conference Centre (UNCC);

Operates a variety of office equipment including the Digital Signage System, Public Address (PA) system and the zone announcement for the emergency announcements, Touchscreen system, and other conference technology-related systems;Assists in processing the recording of meeting proceedings and concerts audio and video formats as necessary;Assembles and test calls conference-related equipment and systems, and conducts the in-house preventive maintenance;

Participates in the dry/test run of the meetings and checks the presentation materials;Provides technical support to the virtual meeting using a variety of platforms, i.e., MS Teams, Zoom, Kudo, Hopin, WebEx, etc and installs/updates related software and applications on the conference equipment used by Conference Technology Team.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent.

Relevant first-level university degree may be accepted in lieu of two years of required experience.

Job - Specific Qualification

Work Experience

At least one year of experience in conference support, information and communication technology or related area is required.

Previous work experience with the United Nations and/or other international organizations would be desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

For the post advertised, fluency in English is required.

Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Assessment

Qualified applicants may be evaluated through a competency-based interview and/or other assessment methods.

Special Notice

Appointment against this post is on a local basis; candidates shall be recruited in the country or within commuting distance of the ESCAP office, irrespective of nationality and length of time the candidate may have been in the country.

If no suitable local candidate is identified, candidates located elsewhere may be considered.

The candidate is responsible for any expenses incurred in taking the relevant examinations at the duty station, and of any costs related to traveling and relocating to the duty station in the event of an employment offer.

The initial appointment is for a period of one year.

Extension of appointment is subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funds.

Must have passed the United Nations Global General Service Test (GGST) at Headquarters or an equivalent locally- administered test at Offices Away from Headquarters.

United Nations Considerations

According to article 101, paragraph 3, of the Charter of the United Nations, the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity.

Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.
